After many years of hating, no, *despising* Sony for cancelling this brilliant game, I decided to buy a swap magic disc set and a flip top cover for my slim PS2. I was blown away by the opening cinematics and rather disturbed by the creepy title screen. I have NO IDEA what is going on this game, but I am having so much fun playing it and loving every minute of it! The sound effects are amazing, the atmosphere is unreal, and the combat is insane! Although new monsters never fail to kill me in mere seconds and my weapons have the tendency to break at the worst possible times and I tend to wander around the same rooms over and over again wondering whether or not I have already explored them... THIS IS SHADOW TOWER AND IT IS AWESOME. Thanks to google, I found some really nice guides at kings-field.com. I was just wondering, is that guide complete? I checked out the first few areas of the guide and it looks like it is going to be my new best friend for the next few weeks. Long story short, Shadow Tower Abyss is a masterpiece. I haven't felt this passionate about a game since King's Field The Ancient City.

Saw a time-trial where someone beats it in an hour, and I watched all of that, but still. I wish I could play it. Weissvulf was working on translating it... I'm not sure if it would be for patch sake, or manual/script sake. Probable mucosal damage may contraindicate the use of gastric lavage.

I am so happy that I finally got to enjoy and experience the game, but I will never forgive Sony for originally denying the game. From the disturbing beginning, to the peaceful, yet unsettling ending, shadow tower abyss is a beautiful masterpiece and above and beyond everything else in the entire universe. SHADOW TOWER ABYSS IS A PERFECT TEN. Everything about this game is exactly what I wanted and expected. It is the pinnacle of the King's Field/Shadow Tower series. Perfect FPS style controls, rewarding exploration, extreme character customization/development, intense combat/action, and incredible item/monster variety. After you complete the game, you start from the beginning with *everything* in your inventory including money, potions, weapons, armor, accessories, and even your character attributes. Even the shops and storage retain exactly what you bought, sold, and stashed from the previous playthrough. It also seems like new items are available to find and purchase too. I haven't seen a "new game plus" done this well in ages, probably not since chrono trigger. I think justice is being served to Sony. They denied STA and they have been paying the price for it with the failure that is the PS3. Although I must admit... I am very much looking forward to playing Demons Souls.

My translation would definitely be in a patch version that lets people play the game in English. I'm not entirely sure I can insert subtitles into the CG video yet, but I should be able to translate everything else with a patch. A rough version of the opening story: the cinematics show a guide who is leading an old man deep into the forest to the ruins of an ancient shrine. The old man makes an offering to Darkness on the ancient shrine and a passage opens as odd creatures attack. The guide flees for his life into the passage and finds himself trapped in dark caves. The player character is this guide. The wall message where the game begins basically says 'only he who holds the spear rules, only they may leave the darkness' thus setting up the game's premise. I think it takes place in the same tower as the original Shadow Tower, but this time you play through the Abyss beneath the Tower. ............................ A fool measures his wisdom by how many other fools agree with him.

However, there are some definite bugs in the game that take away some of the fun and brings on a lot of irritation. There are also a few balance issue in the gameplay combat mechanics that needed to have been tweaked a bit. But Agetec stil plans to bring it out, and fix some of the problems, I would definitely get it again.

I was fortunate enough to have a CB4 to use codes and not die or have my weapons break or run out of ammo which made it a little easier to play considering I really didn't know what I was doing. But anyway, I did find it very interesting to play. BURN BABY BURN!!!
