I think Kings Field is a victim of the ages. Let me explain...
Kings Field debuted in 1994 over in Japan. Interestingly enough, that was the same year the Elder Scrolls series started. Now then, at the time, RPGs seem to be largely ultima and dnd with the occasional turned based final fantasy type. Big expansive worlds weren't par for the course. Nor was big time character customization. It was still very much a 'this is your hero. go kill' world (except for the dnd games of course). Arena (the first elder scrolls) was a bit of a dnd/first person hybrid. Custimization with real time first person combat and an expansive world. As someone who has had a chance to play a bit of the game, I can also say that the controls and interface are a little rough to get use to.
Now then, lets look at today. Kings Field and Elder Scrolls both have four games in the series as well as spin offs. (KF has shadow tower and eternal ring, ES had Battlespire and Redguard). Kings Field has all by died. Oblivion is on its way to the hall of fame. Games like kings field, the standard set hero, set quest type game are vanishing to the hand-helds (those Castlevania games we have brought up). The big 3d consoles are all about big world and freedom of play. In effect, Kings Field failed to modernize. Its not a bad game, its just a bit old school now.
Thats my 2 cents...or rather 30 bucks worth.
