Re: Chances? | ||

Armored Core has done wonderful for us and losing a title in the series is unfortunate. The sales overall have been profitable, however it has been far from our big money maker. The cost involved (licensing, royalty and localization) have always been high. We choose to venture down a new path and I for one am running down it.
We hope to announce some things very soon. |

I'm looking forward to hear about those things.
Oh, since I havent been able to talk to you in a very long time, I'll take this chance to say the following: Kick-@#%$ job with PoPoLoCrois! "Septiego's Blade" was a nice surprise in there, heh. I really hope the spectacular job you guys did with that title are a sign of things to come. ---------------------------------------

A new ray of hope for King's Field
|
What's that? Can it be? Do I see a glimmer of sunshine breaking through that dark cloud of reality? No; it's something much more than a glimmer. It's a shining beacon of belief; a luminous ray of hope created anew by the words of King's Field's biggest fan.*
*Who better to hold that position and describe himself as such in the archives of this board than Mark. |

Well those are some sad news for the staff of Agetec.
As for the fans, in the name of most of them I thank you for giving us some of the best years of our gaming lives. Hope to hear more from Agetec! Take care. |

Mark, I just want to say thank you for coming back to answer our questions. We're a small group and not many people would have taken the time to do that.

A possible rebirth of King's Field on the Playstation 3
|
May these words from the past foretell the future.
Quote: These words were spoken by Shinichiro Nishida, Producer of King's Field IV (KFTAC in North America), in October 2001. Now another five years have passed and another new platform, the Playstation 3, is on the horizon. |

A Tribute | ||
|
As a tribute to the series, I declare we all start a new game of King's Field on it's anniversary, to relive the joys of playing the greatest journey of all time!
Long live King's Field!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Imagine a universe where you can travel freely - being able to look up and down, climb ancient ruins, traverse across oceans, jump off ridges, and duel enemies - all in real time, non-linear play. This visual world will not only astound you, but will pull you right into its universe. You will embark on a journey to an island of evil-ridden dungeons, villages, and castles as you seek the Moonlight Sword, which had been stolen by a cult of insidious worshippers of evil. The kingdom of Verdite is under attack. Its last hope is the legendary Moonlight sword. The Royal Knights are sent to the swords resting place on the island of Melanat. Unfortunately, the ship carrying the knights encounters a storm and sinks. You take the role of Alexander, the doomed ships sole survivor. All you have to do is find the Moonlight sword and escape the island. As a stroke of bad luck, the residents of Melanat are not too happy to see you, so it looks like youve got a fight on your hands. However, there are few residents who are willing to give you advice and sell you items that will aid you in your quest. You will not miss a second of the action thanks to a first-person perspective that lets you see every nook of every scene. Only you can help Alexander find the Moonlight sword and save the kingdom in KINGS FIELD. And for those looking for the first actual game..... cgi.ebay.com/KINGS-FIELD-...dZViewItem |

Mark, thank you for your honest answers, and for answering at all. To the rest of you at Agetec/ASCII, thank you for helping America get the greatest RPG series ever (even if few people in this @#%$ country actually appreciate it).
One two-part question though: What are Agetec's plans right now? Localizing any cool games that we don't know about yet? And, after reading Renwick's posting of words from the past, I realize that now is not the time to wallow in pessimism over what's become of KFA (eew Wizardry gameplay!). Now is the time to bask in semi-blind optimism, for a new system will be upon us!...let's just hope FROM brings it over to a cheaper console with everything intact. With the new generation of consoles will soon come FROM's next opportunity to put the next, most advanced King's Field yet. After so many years of waiting for KFIV, it should be normal to wait a while for KFV as well! Soon enough that wait will be over, and at that time we will all SWING MOONLIGHT ONCE MORE! ...but in the meantime I'll go heed EvilDead1's rally to start a new game of KF. After sleep. |

The Good Ole Days... | ||
|
I still get giddy sometimes playing the games...especially KF2 since that is my most recent aquisition. Can't forget the time I went off and tried to make a King's Field Module for Neverwinter Nights. Stupidest idea I ever had...yet kings field inspired stuff continues to pop up, even making an item in a morrowind pluggin called 'The Moonlight Sword' and scripting it so that a particular enemy went down after three swings from it.... (no it wasn't the dark one).
As I have stated before, if I have anything to do with it there will one day be another kings field. Now...will I be able to have anything to do with it no probably not...but that never stopped me before now did it! All we can do is hope. Until then, wear lots of synthetic leather and learn to dance the polka! 'Never invoke anything bigger than your head.'

There comes a time in every man's life where he must hold his head up high, accept defeat, and stand with dignity.
This is not one of those times for me. *throws a tantrem, locks himself in his room, and cries for several days* dammit.

Pretenders to the King's Field throne; simmering faith
|
I'm relieved that Mark Johnson had nothing whatsoever to do with the development of the two King's Field "Additional" games for the PSP. Mark remains true to his vision for King's Field. He says those games are different in every way from King's Field, and that's good enough for me to dismiss them without a second thought. Small screen pretenders to the King's Field throne, begone!
Mark's refusal to believe there will never be another King's Field game that is true to the tradition of the series is also good enough for me. The King's Field kettle may have been moved to the back burner, but I believe its incarnation of incantations is simmering at half full, not half empty. Who waits with faith, waits with victory!* *One of my favorite last lines from movies, and it's from one of my favorite movies. Name the movie and get a prize. Name the actor/actress who spoke the line and get two prizes. |

Xbox 360 | ||

Another thought...
From Software is now releasing games for the Xbox 360 in the likes of ChromeHounds and Enchant Arms. Would it be possible they'll see the overall success of Oblivion and possibly, dare I say, decide to release another King's Field for the Xbox 360? And Renwick, that line sounds like something from an old Audie Murphy film? |

Re: EvilDead's questions
|
EvilDead1,
My responses to your questions: Question #1: Sure it's possible, especially if Microsoft pays FromSoftware some money to subsidize the development of the game. Deep Pockets Bill has done that in the past to promote the development of more games for the Xbox systems. But I hope that doesn't happen. Question #2: I shudder at the thought of Audie Murphy trying to read that line with feeling and conviction. The movie in question was made well before Audie's time in Hollywood. |

Re: EvilDead's questions

Awwwwwww....
If they develop one for the 360, I sorely hope there will be one for the PS3. Dont doom me to using the "Hamburger" to control my character....! (note: "The Hamburger" was the nickname given to the original Xbox controller by the editors at "Gamepro" due to it's cumbersome size.)

Re: The death of King's Field
|
I just want to throw in my two cents from one fans perspective.
Yes indeed it is a departure from the console King's Fields. But a Dungeon crawler is a Dungeon crawler turn based or not is it not? It almost appears from an outside perspective that personal feelings are somewhat involved in this decision. I love Kings Field games as much as anyone else here, but that does not mean those are the only types of games I can enjoy. I love Dungeon Crawlers in general turn based or not and they don't come around too often anymore so I take what I can get. While I for one would also have hoped for a "true" Kings Field sequel, that does not mean I am going to scoff at this release in fan anguish. As far as I am concerned it is still a dungeon crawler and it's set in the Kings Field universe. Sounds good to me, even if it is not exactly the title many of us may have hoped for. The major disappointment I have is that it looks like I will have to import this title and play it in a language I do not understand rather than playing a localized version that myself and my friends can fully enjoy as it appears Mark and Agetec are not interested in releasing this title because of its different direction. |

Re: More last line hints
|
EvilDead1,
In the current PSP topic, you asked for more hints re the movie that ends with one of my favorite last lines. Since I quoted the line in this topic, I'll continue that tangent here. The movie was filmed in 1941. It is an adventure story about the early days of World War II in Africa, and it was filmed in Africa. My favorite composer of film scores - Miklos Rozsa - was nominated for an Academy Award for his score. The cast includes George Sanders, Bruce Cabot and Marc Lawrence. The ravishing female lead could make a camel dump its hump. |

Oh ok...
A film pertaining to the time of day, correct? Gene Teirney was also in an early film starring one of my favorite actors, Vincent Price. Can you guess that film Renwick? |

Re: Ravishing Female | ||

EvilDead1,
I think you got it! Name the film and win the first prize. Name the actor and/or actors who spoke the line and win the second prize. I can think of two films that Gene Tierney made with Vincent Price: Laura in 1944 and Dragonwyck in 1946. |

Re: The first prize | ||

EvilDead1,
You have won the fabulous first prize. Send me an email with your address and I will mail it to you. The second prize really goes with the first prize, so you should try for it also. Here is an incentive teaser. These prizes have an oblique connection to King's Field. See, that makes this tangent a valid subject for this board. |
